4Nice hood for less then $300 bucks
By Uriah A Carpenter
I was looking for a hood to replace our 12 year old "builders special" hood. It was very loud and simply didn't work very well anymore. Primarily, I was looking for hood that could move a lot of air, but without it sounding like there was a jet engine running in the house. There were no reviews of this product on Amazon, but I took a chance on it because it seemed like the best value I could find.

While I would of preferred a stainless steel model, a $700+ range hood was simply out of my price range. I notice this hood primarily because it was available via Amazon Prime. Looking closer I found that KOBE is manufacturer of higher-end hoods. Their website is at [...] I assume that the "Brillia" brand name is being applied to less-expensive models that are not available in stainless steel and/or other higher-end features.

Some wood blocking fillers were necessary to be installed under my cabinet before attaching the hood via 4 holes in the top of it. I needed help mounting it under the cabinet. Attempting to hold-up the hood in place and run the drill is not an skill that I'm blessed with! Once installed and the electrical connected the hood worked without a problem.

Overall, fan suction is very good. It uses a centrifugal (squirrel cage) fan; using the two lower speeds and the noise level is very tolerable. The top speed is "not quiet" -- but it can move quite a bit of air and it's still less noise then the low-speed on my old hood.

The biggest complaint I have with the hood are the built-in lights. They have two settings but even the high setting is not very bright. My old hood had a bare 60-watt bulb that easily produced twice the amount of light. The other issue with the bulbs is they are only accessible after you remove the bottom section of the hood by taking out a couple of screws. It's not really difficult, but it takes it bit a prying and pushing to get the panel removed and re-installed.

For less then $300 I think this is a very nice range hood from a company that has a good reputation for making quality higher-end products.
